ASHP-ABHP LEADERSHIP AWARD ANNOUNCEMENT!
Lenore T. Coleman, PharmD, CDE, FASHP is the 2012 ASHP-ABHP Leadership Award recipient. She is being recognized for her sustained leadership, dedicated and voluntary contributions to the profession of pharmacy in reducing racial and ethnic disparities in health care.
Dr. Coleman has been a practicing pharmacist for 34 years. She has worked as a clinical pharmacist in the acute care, ambulatory care, long-term care, and community pharmacy setting. Within each of those practice settings, Dr. Coleman has focused on the care and management of people with diabetes.
Dr. Coleman holds the title of Associate Professor, Xavier College of Pharmacy; Research Fellow, Center of Excellence; and Howard University School of Pharmacy. A Certified Diabetic Educator of 10 years, Dr. Coleman provides education and drug therapy management to ethnic populations throughout the United States. Dr. Coleman is currently the Executive Director and CEO of Total Lifestyle Change, Inc. (TLC), a non-profit service organization dedicated to eliminating health care disparities in ethnic populations. As part of TLC Dr. Coleman developed Project FAITH and Operation DETECT: A Cardiovascular Risk Reduction Program for Faith-Based and Community-Based Organizations. As part of Operation DETECT, TLC has a mobile health van, staffed by Wellness Coaches providing diabetes and hypertension education as well as generation of a personalized health record (PHR). Clinical Pharmacists telephonically intervene with diabetes patients and communicate/coordinate care with the patient’s primary care provider.
Dr. Coleman is President and Founder of Healing Our Village of Maryland, Inc. (HOV). HOV provides minority recruitment for clinical research trials as well as a medication therapy management and health education programming in physician offices, urban hospitals and community health clinics. She is the author of the 2nd Edition of “Healing Our Village: A Self-Care Guide to Diabetes Control”. Healing Our Village also provides online and advance training on culturally competent diabetes care to healthcare professionals worldwide.
Dr. Coleman is a Fellow of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of California, San Francisco. She completed an ASHP approved residency in Ambulatory Care at the USC School of Pharmacy.
ABHP strives to represent Black and minority health-system pharmacists and is dedicated to the growth and development of their pharmacy practice in health care facilities. The association provides up-to-date educational programs on minority health issues to help members improve their professional skills and the quality of care that they provide in their area of pharmacy practice.
