Cedona Watts is the ABHP Student Achievement Award Recipient
Cedona Watts is the 2012 Association of Black Health-System Pharmacists (ABHP) Student Achievement Award recipient. Cedona is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Huntsville with a B.A. degree in Philosophy and a B.S. degree in Biology. She is currently a PharmD candidate in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Southern California (USC).
Cedona is being recognized for her academic achievement, outstanding professional leadership, and involvement in community and professional services. Her academic achievements are exemplified by her high grade point average and research efforts. For more than six years, Cedona has gained research experience under several outstanding principal investigators, which has allowed her to develop skills and knowledge of various laboratory equipment and techniques. As a Research Assistant she has demonstrated her ability to deliver her research in written reports, oral platform and poster presentations, as well as publication. She recently completed a Cancer Research Internship at the National Cancer Institute Center for Cancer Research.
She has been actively involved in volunteer and community services throughout her entire pharmacy education experience. Her volunteer and community service has ranged from working health fairs with a variety of health organizations, in diverse patient communities, with children, to women health programs, and fellow students involving activities which help bring attention to such health issues as healthy eating, vaccinations; heart, diabetes, menopause, osteoporosis, and cancer diseases.
She has demonstrated a strong commitment to her profession by being an active member of her local, state, national, and international professional organizations, which includes, among others, the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP), Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA), the Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and the American Pharmacists Association- Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP). She also serves as Co-Chair of the Association of Black Health-system Pharmacists (ABHP) Student Affairs Council.
Her efforts and achievements have not gone unrecognized. Cedona is a National Black Graduate Student Association Conference Fellow. She is the recipient of the William Lawson, Jr. Scholarship, Walgreens Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship, the Joyce and Harold Washington Endowed Scholarship, Dolly Harris Endowed Scholarship, and the CVS Diversity Scholarship. Cedona has been inducted into the Sigma Xi Research Honor Society, Alpha Epsilon Delta Honor Society, and the Delta Epsilon Iota Academic Honor Society.
ABHP strives to represent Black and minority health-system pharmacists and is dedicated to the growth and development of their pharmacy practice in health care facilities. The association provides up-to-date educational programs on minority health issues to help members improve their professional skills and the quality of care that they provide in their area of pharmacy practice.
