Fellow of the Association of Black Health-Systems Pharmacist (FABHP)

Deadline to Apply: March 30th

To become recognized as a Fellow in ABHP a member must earn at least 175 Fellowship points every 5 years and be in “active” member category of membership. These points are earned in 12 different categories as shown in the application. If you are interested in being recognized as a professional who has met the highest standards in the field of minority health and healthcare disparities, then please look over the 12 categories for Fellowship status. As you earn points within the different categories fill them in. There is a limit to the number of points one can obtain in each category. Thus, qualified Fellows must demonstrate a balance between practice duties, professional experience, and community activism concerning minority healthcare issues. As soon as you have earned a total of 175 points, complete the application, provide a nomination letter,   and send it along with application fee. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the membership department of ABHP headquarters.

Key Points

  • The 175 points must be earned within the 5 year period immediately preceding the date of application, except for the lifetime achievement category
  • Your membership category in ABHP must be “Active” Member
  • ABHP will not require a detailed list of all CE credits, but one should maintain their own records for future reference and to use to qualify for the FABHP designation
  • Each application should be accompanied with a nomination letter

Category I (25 points allowed)

Pharmacy Association Membership

  • National Association- 3 points per year per association
  • State Association-2 points per year per association
  • Local Association- 1 point per year per association
  • Non-Pharmacy Association-1 point per year per association

Category II (25 points allowed)

Professional Meeting Attendance

  • ABHP Annual Meeting and Minority Health Conference- 5 points per year
  • ABHP Midyear Meeting at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting-4 points per year
  • Other ABHP Meetings- 3 points per year for each
  • Other National Meetings-2 points per year for each
  • State/Local Annual Meeting 1 point per year for each

Category III (60 points allowed)

Continuing Education and Experience

  • Years in pharmacy practice serving the underserved minority population – 2 points per year
  • Each CE credit hour -1 point each
  • CE credit earned involving minority health topics-1.5 point each

List total earned at a meeting rather than listing each individual program attended. Do not send copies of CE credits

Category IV (25 points allowed)

Certifications

  • BPS – 5 points each
  • ASHP Traineeships -5 points each
  • DiseaseStateCertification -2 points each
  • Office of Minority Health Traineeships -5 points each
  • MTM Certification -2 points
  • Immunization Certification -2 points
  • Health Literacy Certification – 2 points

 Category V (20 points allowed)

Teaching and Mentoring

  • Participation in formalized course in public health/healthcare disparities/minority healthcare issues – 5 points per year
  • Active preceptor working in underserved area – 2 points per student per year
  • ABHPCollegeContact – 3 points per year
  • ABHP MemberMentor– 3 points per year
  • Teaching allied health professionals on minority health topics – 2 points per class

Category VI (20 points allowed)

Professional Presentations

  • Presentation to peers at national or state meeting (contributed papers, focus groups or podium involving minority health topics) – 4 points each
  • Presentation to peers at national or state meeting (contributed papers, focus groups or podium)                   – 3 points each
  • Minority health topics or pharmacy topics presented to non-pharmacists- 2 points each
  • Public relations event (bios, print video) – 2 points each

Category VII (20 points allowed)

Publications

  • Author or co-author of full length published journal article on minority health topic – 6 points each
  • Author or co-author of full length published journal article – 4 points each
  • Author of full-length in-house newsletter article on minority health topic – 2 points each
  • Author of full-length in-house newsletter article – 1 point each

Category VIII (20 points)

Professional Advancements

  • Poster Presentation on Minority health Topic – 5 points each
  • Active participation in collaborative agreement primarily servicing the underrepresented or underserved minority population – 5 points each
  • Initiate/innovative health program/wellness program-4 points each

Category IX (15 points)

Advocacy and Civic Activities

  • Capital Hill visit -6 points each
  • State legislator visit- 6 points each
  • Letter written on political issues involving minority healthcare issues -5 points each
  • Civic Activity- 4 points each

Category X (20 points allowed)

Pharmacy Leadership

  • Each State level elected position- 4 points each per year
  • Each National or State level appointed chair position – 3 points each per year
  • Each National or State level appointed committee/council position – 2 points each per year

Category XI (15 points allowed)

Awards

  • Local pharmacy award – 5 points each
  • Non-pharmacy award – 4 points each

Category XII (20 points allowed)

Distinguished achievement

  • National level elected position- 8 points each
  • National pharmacy award- 5 points each
  • State pharmacy award – 5 points each

Category XIII (10 points allowed)

Nomination letter

  • Letter from current FABHP recipient- 10 points
  • Other practitioner -5 points
  • Application Fee: $100 per application and renew every five years per applicant
  • Administrative Fee: $ 2.00 – mailing of certificate, pin, and letter of acceptance per applicant.
